As some of you know, I completed my Yoga Teacher Training in May. While some of you may think of yoga as a workout, it can also be breathwork, mindfulness, meditation, and using poses to move negative energy out of your body. In my personal journey, I have found yoga to be very influential in calming my busy brain as well as processing negative events and releasing those energies that no longer serve me.
What can you expect from a yoga session with me?
Each session we will check in with your body and mind. We may do stretches, strength activities, and balance poses. If you need to practice in a chair rather than the floor, OK! If you need a block/blanket/assistive item to make the pose feel better in your body? GREAT! If you need to skip a pose because of joint pain, NO PROBLEM! The practice is meant to feel GOOD in your body, sometimes pushing us to pressure but not to pain.
If we are integrating yoga into your individual therapy session, we might spend 15-30 minutes practicing poses that help with your specific need including easing symptoms of anxiety and depression. It might also be practicing breathwork or other mindfulness visualizations/practices. Integrating yoga into our therapy sessions is covered by insurance.
If you are attending one of my small group classes, it will be around one hour. We will spend the first 5 minutes settling in, followed by warming up the body, practicing several poses, then ending in yin postures to release tension in the body, and final resting pose to soak up all the good effects of our yoga practice. The idea is to move the body, work on flexibility, and encourage energy movement throughout the body. These classes are not covered by insurance.
I also offer private yoga sessions if you would like to schedule an individual hour with me. We will discuss what you wish to achieve in yoga, receive one- on-one instruction of poses, and get a more individualized approach to your concerns. We can also record these in case you would like to view/practice on your own at a later time. These sessions are not covered by insurance.
